Unit 2: Relationships reflection
Relationships were the focus of our second unit. I loved this unit because it relates to almost everything, and it overlaps with other classes and other big ideas. Our first project was inspired by Mary Cassatt, and I liked this project because it had a wide variety of options. It allowed me to show the most important relationships in my life: my family. This could be a great project to incorporate during star of the week or to get to know your class at the beginning of the year.
The second project, based off of the work of Rene Magritte, was different because other people were able to contribute to our collage. This project was a challenge for me because I like to make sure that my work is my best. This would be a great project in a classroom to allow students to learn to be accepting of others ideas and additions. It could also be a great way to allow right and left brain learners to succeed because “the left hemisphere is sequential; the right hemisphere is simultaneous” (Pink, 2006). This task requires both!
Finally, Do Ho Suh inspired us to make pop up homes. I had a fun time with this project, and it could be a good way to allow students full creativity. All of these projects showed me the “connection between emotions and how we see pictures” (Bang, 1991).
