Unit 3: Stories reflection
Stories has been my favorite big idea so far. Even though there have been many projects I have enjoyed, the concept of making art based on the story of my life, other's lives, or even a stranger's life really stands out to me. I believe that this big idea is one that I will implement in my classroom frequently. Because "the exercise of imagination is one of the most important of human aptitudes," I want to make sure my students have an effective way to show their creativity (Eisner, 2009). Growing up, I was never a great writer nor did I enjoy it. Because of this, I want to give my student's more than one way to express their personal stories or stories that they came up with. This allows the students to use the same creativity that they need to become a good writer, but it just has a different end product. In Eisner's article, he says that "we know more than we can tell" (Eisner, 2009). Allowing students to get their emotions out makes the classroom a safe place which many students won't have at home. This aligns with my goal to be more than just a teacher getting through lessons...I want to be a teacher that reaches the students and their story.
